Why is it Important for Students and New Graduates to Promote Themselves as a Brand?
Every year millions of students graduate full of excitement and ready to start a life of independence. However, what they do not anticipate, is the difficulties they will encounter while trying to find a job.
Each graduate's earning potential is unlimited, but in a sea of talent, it is up to you to stand out and set yourself apart from the crowd. Personal branding may be a new concept in terms of resumes, but corporate branding is something that most of us are familiar with. We have heard of Nike, Amazon, and Microsoft which are all well known and respected Brands.
As parents, you teach your children to do their best and advise them on the best path to take in order to ensure financial security, whether that means paying off their student loans, getting that dream job, buying a new home or ensuring they are educated about wealth management.
However, none of that will matter if they have to compete with millions of other college graduates who are just as qualified for positions they are applying for.

What Does the Branding Package Include?
The basic Branding Package includes a resume or CV (1-2 pages), a customized cover letter, a customized thank you letter, and a LinkedIn Profile. You can add a website and business cards to the Branding Package which are separate services but absolutely recommended.
The Resume or CV
There was a time not too long ago that recruiters would look at each and every resume they received to actually see if you met the qualification for the position they advertise for. Today, that work has been farmed out to sophisticated software programs or Applicant Tracking Systems. This is why highly qualified applicants are sometimes overlooked. They simply did not optimize their resumes to pass the applicant tracking software screen. There is a science behind this and I will optimize your resume to ensure that it is highly competitive. Once the resume passes the software, the recruiter then only scans the resume for 30 to 60 seconds to find out of that person is a good fit to pass on to the next step in the application process. The way I formulate resumes will ensure that within those 30-60 seconds, the key details that recruiters are looking for, is readily available to them so they don’t have to search for it. The Cover Letter
The cover letter is customized, that is the key. There are many resume and cover letter services out there but most of them are owned by one company and they then factory farm your cover letter, meaning that they use the same templates and the same wording for every cover letter people pay for. In today’s world where everyone is online, you can’t risk your future on unprofessional, factory farmed work. A potential employer could easily run the cover letter or resume through a software like Copyscape and see that many other cover letters use the exact same wording. It is you that will lose out and ultimately you will hurt your Brand.
Make sure that you have 100% authentic work and do not rely on factor farmed resume and cover letter writing services. Usually if they don’t have the name of the writer on the website, such as I do, then most likely you are going to get bad quality, factory farmed work.
I will customize the cover letter and will personally research positions you are applying for to make sure the things those positions are looking for are what I highlight on the cover letter and portions of your resume. I will also ensure that both soft and hard skills are highlighted.
The LinkedIn Profile
Well, there is nothing else I can say about this except that there is almost no way to get around not having a LinkedIn profile in this day and time especially as a new graduate or entry-level professional. Potential employers are on there and they actively look for prospects on LinkedIn. Not to mention, having a profile on LinkedIn makes communication and job application very simple--literally, just the push of a button.
The LinkedIn profile should be written in a different voice and should be different than the resume. Again, please avoid factory farmed resume, cover letter and LinkedIn services that just copy the resume onto the LinkedIn profile and charge you the same amount for writing a new profile. The LinkedIn profile should have different, SEO optimized content and written in a different and more conversational voice.

The Personal Website
Think of this as your signature. No one has your name and if there are 1 million “John Smiths”, there are not a million “JohnQuincySmiths”. Claiming a website in your name is absolutely essential. You can add as little or as much content on it as you want and it allows you more creativity when outlining your talents than LinkedIn (although LinkedIn is still necessary). For new graduates looking for work, a website coupled with a business card is a powerful tool.
Prospects are everywhere, so you should carry a business card with pertinent information including: Name, Phone Number, Email Address, and Personal Website. The personal website will then have all the necessary detail including: Resume, About Me, LinkedIn Profile and other information your graduate would like on there.
